چکیده

This paper presents a steady-state model that is useful for predicting the performance of centrifugal liquid chillers over a wide range of operating conditions. The model employs an elemental NTU-E methodology to model both the shell-and-tube condenser and the flooded evaporator. The approach allows the change in heat transfer coefficients throughout the heat exchangers to be accounted for, thereby improving the accuracy of the simulation model. The model requires only those inputs that are readily available to the user (ie. condenser inlet water temperature and evaporator water outlet temperature). The outputs of the model include system performance variables such as the compressor electrical work input and the coefficient of performance (COP). The model is validated with data from a 450 kW open-drive centrifugal chiller where the agreement is found to be within ±10%.

Dynamic Simulation of Liquid Chillers

The impact of refrigeration systems on the environment can be reduced by: a) the use of alternative refrigerants which are less harmful to the environment and b) the optimisation of systems and control strategies to deliver increased levels of energy efficiency_ Mathematical modelling offers the opportunity to test the performance of systems under different operating conditions and with alterna...

A Molecular-Based Equation of State for Vapour-liquid Equilibrium of Pure Substances

A semi-empirical equation of state has been studied for modelling vapour-liquid data of pure substances. The specific molecular based equation of state is employed here as basis because of its mathematical simplicity. The semi-empirical extension has been accomplished to real fluids by correlating the density dependence of the attraction term to vapour liquid data of a reference fluid. The resu...

Modelling of In-Situ Liquid Chillers

This paper presents an overview of various simulation techniques that may be useful for predicting the in-situ (dynamic) performance of vapour-compression liquid chillers over a wide range of operating conditions. Four models were considered namely steady-state and transient physical models, and steady-state and transient neural network models. Typical real-time operating data taken under vario...

Rainfall-runoff modelling using artificial neural networks (ANNs): modelling and understanding

In recent years, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools in order to model complex hydrological processes such as the rainfall-runoff process. In many studies, ANNs have demonstrated superior results compared to alternative methods. ANNs are able to map underlying relationship between input and output data without prior understanding of the process under in...

Various Approaches to Thermodynamic Optimization of a Hybrid Multi-effect Evaporation with Thermal Vapour Compression and Reverse Osmosis Desalination System Integrated to a Gas Turbine Power Plant

This paper investigates the simulation of a hybrid desalination system composed of multi-effect evaporation with thermal vapour compression desalination (METVC) and reverse osmosis (RO) plant. The hybrid desalination system is also integrated with a gas turbine power plant through a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). First, a comprehensive Thermodynamic model for HRSG, METVC, and RO are deve...
